Week of 1/23- 1/27

Spelling/Phonics– No spelling test this week. We are learning about the prefixes: un-, pre-, re-, dis-. A prefix changes the meaning of a word.
Ex. reread means to read again.
re- again
pre- before
dis- not, or the opposite of
un- not, or the opposite of

Reading– This week we are learning about inferencing. You make an inference when you use clues from the story to figure out something that the author doesn’t directly tell you.

Math– We are starting subtraction with regrouping (we use to call it borrowing when we were kids). Here are some rhymes we are using in class to help us remember.

1. If there is more on the top, no need to stop!

2. If the numbers are the same, then zero is the game!

3. If there’s more on the floor, go next door and get ten more!
