Week of 2/27 – 3/3

Spelling/Phonics- Here are our spelling words for this week:
New words: name, between, still, found, every
Review words: with, have, what, when, there, then, could, its, where, place, went

Reading- This week we are doing Reader’s Theatre with several different stories.

Math– We are reviewing fractions, graphs, addition and subtraction with regrouping and place and place value.

Supplies

As we get closer to the end of the year we are starting to run low on supplies. We are in need of pencils and glue sticks. If you are out and about and able to grab some, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Week of 2/13-2/17

Spelling/Phonics– Here are our words for our spelling test this week:
New words: small, say, men, tell, great
Review words: they, their, would, very, after, most, through, think, around, help, different

Reading- We are diving into poetry. This week we are focusing on 5 Senses and Cinquain poems. The 5 Senses poem is just writing about a subject using our 5 senses. A Cinquain follows a pattern. See examples below.

Math- We are starting fractions this week. In 2nd grade our vocabulary is 2 out of 6 piece are shaded= 2/6.

Valentine’s Party Information

A note is going home today with information about the Valentine Party. The party is on Tuesday, February 14th, from 12:00-1:00. I will have a sign out sheet in my classroom if you would like to leave with your child after the party. I will provide a sack for them to decorate in the classroom to hold their Valentine’s. Please make sure that your child fills out a Valentine for everyone in the classroom. The note being sent home today includes every child’s name. You may start sending the Valentine’s cards to school Thursday, February 9th. Please try to bring them no later than Monday, February 13th.

Week of 2/6 – 2/10

Spelling/Phonics– This week we will not have a spelling test. We are learning about suffixes. A suffix is added to the end of a word to make a new word. The suffixes we will be learning about are: ful– full of, less– without, ly– in a certain way.

Reading– We will be spiraling back to Story Elements- setting, characters and character traits, problem and solution.

Math– We will continue to work on subtraction with regrouping as well as practice 3 digit addition and 3 digit subtraction.
