Tardies

Parents it is very important that your child comes to school on time. Our day starts at 8:00am and we begin class right away. If your child is tardy then they are missing important instruction time. Also instruction time then has to be cut short in order for those who were tardy to get caught up. Please make sure your child is in class and ready by 8:00am. Thank you!

Spelling and Homework for the Week

I hope everyone had a restful weekend!
Here are our new spelling words for this week:

New Words: like, him, see, time, could, spray, drink, clasp

Review Words (these are on the Word Wall): are, from, have, not, there, your, would, the, of, to, be, I, what, will, other(s), two

Also, beginning this week we will have Math Homework that will not be due until Friday. I did not send the homework today because I had a substitute the last half of the the day. I will send the math homework tomorrow. Normally math homework would go home on Monday and will be due Friday.

I will also be sending home a sheet explaining what fluency is in reading and there will be a fluency reading passage on the back of that sheet. This is a practice sheet to help your child with fluency.

Spelling Words Unit 6

Starting this week will begin taking spelling quizzes on Friday. Each week your child will write their new words in their planner on Monday. Along with their spelling words they will also have dictation sentences that they will have to write on the back of the quiz. The words will either be from the word wall or from the new words they get each week.

Parent Orientation

Tuesday, September 15, is parent orientation. It will begin at 6:00pm and end at 7:00pm. This is a short meeting to give you information about 2nd grade. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress or concerns you may have about your child then please schedule a parent conference with me. My conference time is 2:00-2:45 or after school. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night.

Reading Logs

Parents, starting today your child will be bringing home a reading log and book in their Take Home Folder. Please make sure that you read with your child every night, sign their reading log and return both the next day. They will receive a new book every day. It is very important that your child read every night. It will help them with their fluency as well as their comprehension. As the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” Also if they return their reading logs signed they will get a ticket from me. (Trust me, they want these tickets!) Thank you for your help and support!
