Information for the next few weeks

Hello! I hope everyone is staying healthy and well during this time.  Here is some information that I hope will help with any questions or concerns that you may have, especially regarding school work.  I’m sure that most of you have received the note below from the Superintendent. Please note that it states we will have work ready and in place on Tuesday, March 17th.  There will be an all call or email that will go out informing you when work will be ready and where to pick it up.  Since we do not have one to one technology on our campus to be able to access remote lessons, we will have study packets which will include work and information regarding access to online programs. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected].  I will do my best to check my emails on a regular basis.  If you know of any parents who have not subscribed to my blog, please let me know or encourage them to subscribe.  This is the best and easiest way for me to be able to communicate with all parents and give any information that you might need.  If your child does not remember the username and login information for their Prodigy account, email me and I’ll send you that information.  Please stay healthy and safe and hopefully we will be back at school soon.  I miss everyone and can’t wait to see their smiling faces again!

White Oak ISD Community,

Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety and well being of students and staff, White Oak ISD will remain closed through Friday, March 27th (two weeks).  Students and staff will return to school on Monday, March 30th.

This decision was not made lightly, but due to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and best practices, we consider this to be a prudent course of action.  All school events, UIL activities and trips are postponed during this two-week hiatus.

Only essential district personnel will be present in-district during this time period.

Due to this emergency closure, the White Oak ISD Board of Trustees will adopt a resolution that allows hourly employees and other personnel to continue to draw salary.

The district executive committee for UIL events (Athletics, Academic UIL etc.) will meet in the coming days and develop a plan to make up missed games, events etc., as needed.  That information will be disseminated when it is available.

Campus administration is already working on plans for ‘stay at home’ learning projects and ‘on-line’ projects for students.  That information and those details will be disseminated by campus administration on Tuesday the 17th.  Information regarding Bi-district OAP, prom etc., will be disseminated at that time a well.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause and the disruption of routine, but the health and well being of all Roughnecks will always be our guiding compass.

Please continue to check the White Oak ISD website, Facebook pages, blogs and other local news outlets for updates.

Spring Break and other information

Monday, March 23rd will be our Spring Student Led Parent Conferences.  Be on the look out for the Sign Up Genius after Spring Break to set up a time to come.

Don’t forget that Spring Picture Day will be Wednesday, March 18th.

Everyone have a wonderful Spring Break and I hope to see everyone back, rested and ready to go on March 17th!

Week of 3/2- 3/6

*Reading Homework– Everyone has a chapter book to read this week.  Please make sure that your child reads their book every night.  They will need to complete their chapter book by Friday. They will still need to complete their reading log and answer one fiction question from the back of the reading. Please make sure they answer a different question each night.  I know with baseball, softball practice and other things it might be difficult to read that much in one night, just try and do what you can.

Spelling/Phonics

We do not have spelling words or a spelling test this week.  We will be reviewing words that we have had the past few weeks.

Reading

This week is Dr. Seuss’ birthday and in honor of his birthday it is Read Across America week.  We will be doing two different author studies.  Monday thru Wednesday we will be learning about Mo Willems and reading several of his books.  Thursday thru Friday we will be learning about Dr. Seuss and reading some of his books as well. Friday we will also be doing several fun activities related to Dr. Seuss.

Math

We will be finishing up our unit on Fractions or parts of a whole. We will also be taking a math benchmark over the 3rd Nine weeks on Wednesday.
