Continuing School Work

There is a new packet of work that you can pick up in the lobby at the Primary School. 2nd Grade only included a weeks worth of work in it. We will also be sending out another packet next week that will also include a weeks worth of work. It will be located in the lobby as well. We were trying not to overwhelm parents and students with a lot of work at one time. Please do not feel you have to complete all the work in a week, just work at your family’s own pace. We know that there are some of you who have more than one child at home doing work and so we don’t want you to feel overwhelmed. We just want to make sure that we continue your child’s education during this time.

Next week I will be assigning more Seesaw lessons on a daily basis, again please don’t feel you need to complete everyone of these. I will try to have a reading, math, writing, science and social studies lesson. Just have your child complete what they can and when they can.

Seesaw

Hello,

I hope everyone is healthy and well!  Since we will be extending our online learning from home because of the mandatory Shelter-in-Place till April 13th, I will be using and posting work for students on Seesaw.  If you have not already downloaded Seesaw I encourage you to do so.

There are two different Seesaw Apps:

  1. Seesaw Class: This is where your child’s work will be posted and completed.
  2. Seesaw Family: This is where I am able to mass communicate any information that you may need to know without having to email each parent individually. (Like the blog)

*If you are having trouble connecting to your child’s Seesaw account please email me and I’ll send you a QR Code that you can scan.

These are new to me as well as new to most of you so please be patient with me as we work out the kinks.  If you are having an issue or need help getting this up and running, please let me know.  I have a couple of teaching buddies that are helping me but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it.  Setting it up has been the hardest part.

Details of the order are below:

1. You may leave your home, but limit your activities. All individuals should shelter at their place of residence, except for essential activities and business. Additionally, to the extent individuals use shared indoor or outdoor space, they should maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet. All travel, except essential travel and essential activities, is prohibited. Travel into and out of the city is still allowed to perform essential activities, operate essential businesses, or maintain essential governmental functions.

2. To the extent individuals use shared indoor or outdoor space, they should maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet. All travel, except essential travel and essential activities, is prohibited. Travel into and out of the City is still allowed to perform essential activities, operate essential businesses, or maintain essential governmental functions.

3. The Shelter-in-Place orders also direct businesses, except essential businesses, to cease all activities except minimum basic operations. All essential businesses are strongly encouraged to remain open. However, even essential businesses are encouraged to determine essential staff necessary to operate and to send non-essential staff home. To the greatest extent feasible, essential businesses shall comply with social distancing requirements. Essential businesses include a variety of different types of businesses that provide essential goods and services for the community, such as healthcare, grocery stores, gas stations, hardware stores, banks, laundromats, transportation, media, construction, and several others detailed within the directive.

Essential businesses will continue to operate. Non-essential businesses should not continue to operate except for minimal, basic operations.

Seesaw

I have sent you an email inviting you to join Seesaw.  I am new to this so it will take me awhile to get use to it, understand it and post activities for your child to be able to access to help with them with online learning. Please be patient with me, I am learning too.  I have a teacher on my team who is very familiar with using Seesaw and will be my help desk/support.   I’m hoping to get this up and running by today or tomorrow.  Again please email me if you any questions, concerns or if you did not receive an email invite from Seesaw. (I am currently in Dallas helping my mom who is having shelter-in-place and she does not have internet so I am having to use my cell phone as a hotspot. I may not be able to get to something right away because as some of you may know, hotspots can be slow or unpredictable.)

We will get through this!! We can do it!

Education Galaxy

A teacher friend recommended this educational website.  She used it at a school she previously taught at and loved it.  Being that I am doing this on my own we will have limited access to their features because I do not have the funds available for a full subscription at this time.  Let’s give it a try, it can’t hurt. After playing around on this website it seems that we will have access to My Study Plan.  I will be sending you an individual email with your child’s username and password.  I had to create them myself in order to set up the account. Please let me know if you use this website, your thoughts and your child’s thoughts.  If it’s positive then maybe I can find a way to get funds to have access to the entire website.

Hang in their parents, we will get through this together!

Epic!

Parents, if you are having trouble signing up on Epic! here is the class code: hnb8398.

I’m looking into other online programs that I can share. As soon as I have something set up I’ll post that information.

Email invite from Epic!

Parents,

I have sent you an email invite from Epic! which is an online reading app/program that we have on our iPADS and computers at school.  Your child is familiar with how it works and already has an account.  Hopefully this is just one more way to help your child continue their education while at at home. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Information for the next few weeks

Hello! I hope everyone is staying healthy and well during this time.  Here is some information that I hope will help with any questions or concerns that you may have, especially regarding school work.  I’m sure that most of you have received the note below from the Superintendent. Please note that it states we will have work ready and in place on Tuesday, March 17th.  There will be an all call or email that will go out informing you when work will be ready and where to pick it up.  Since we do not have one to one technology on our campus to be able to access remote lessons, we will have study packets which will include work and information regarding access to online programs. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected].  I will do my best to check my emails on a regular basis.  If you know of any parents who have not subscribed to my blog, please let me know or encourage them to subscribe.  This is the best and easiest way for me to be able to communicate with all parents and give any information that you might need.  If your child does not remember the username and login information for their Prodigy account, email me and I’ll send you that information.  Please stay healthy and safe and hopefully we will be back at school soon.  I miss everyone and can’t wait to see their smiling faces again!

White Oak ISD Community,

Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety and well being of students and staff, White Oak ISD will remain closed through Friday, March 27th (two weeks).  Students and staff will return to school on Monday, March 30th.

This decision was not made lightly, but due to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and best practices, we consider this to be a prudent course of action.  All school events, UIL activities and trips are postponed during this two-week hiatus.

Only essential district personnel will be present in-district during this time period.

Due to this emergency closure, the White Oak ISD Board of Trustees will adopt a resolution that allows hourly employees and other personnel to continue to draw salary.

The district executive committee for UIL events (Athletics, Academic UIL etc.) will meet in the coming days and develop a plan to make up missed games, events etc., as needed.  That information will be disseminated when it is available.

Campus administration is already working on plans for ‘stay at home’ learning projects and ‘on-line’ projects for students.  That information and those details will be disseminated by campus administration on Tuesday the 17th.  Information regarding Bi-district OAP, prom etc., will be disseminated at that time a well.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause and the disruption of routine, but the health and well being of all Roughnecks will always be our guiding compass.

Please continue to check the White Oak ISD website, Facebook pages, blogs and other local news outlets for updates.
