Phonics/Spelling

This week we are learning about Homophones.  Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelling differently and have differently meanings.  Ex. to, two & too; their, there & they’re.  Our spelling words this week are High Frequency/Word Wall Words.  Here is our list of words for this week:

Reading/Writing

We are still learning about the differences between Fiction & Nonfiction books.  We are also learning about and researching information about Bats.  They might come home this week talking about Bats and some of the interesting information we have learned about them.  After we are done doing our Bat research we will then write a paper about what we have learned.

 

Math

This week our focus will be learning how to find the missing addend.  There are 3 strategies we will learn this week to help find the missing addend.

Homework:

We will be learning about the Text Features of a Non-fiction book and compare Fiction vs. Non-ficiton.

 

Math:

Our focus this week will be Even/Odd numbers and knowing which numbers are odd and which numbers are even. We will also be reviewing for our Math Benchmark test that is coming up toward the end of the 9 weeks.

 

Reminders:

September 23rd– Early Release at 11:30 for teacher training (Buses will run their normal route at 11:30 as well as car pick up, if your child will be going home a different way that day, please send a note in your child’s planner.)

This week we are learning how to retell or sequence a story using SWBST:

Somebody (Who is the Main Character?)

Wanted  (What are they trying to achieve?)

But  (What is the problem or obstacle they must overcome?)

So  (How did they solve the problem?)

Then  (How was the story resolved?)

 

Math:

We are continuing our lesson about Place Value.  We will be talking about the thousands place this week.
